Proudly sat on London’s Park Lane, JW Steakhouse seems almost out-of-place among the shadows of Park Lane’s finest. But the American-style grill, part of the JW Marriott-owned Grosvenor House Hotel, manages to hold its own in this competitive part of London.

The interior’s relaxing but contemporary feel sets the scene for a British take on all-American cuisine. The dark furnishings and patterned décor create s casual feel that is not found in many restaurants in this prestigious location.

Not for the feint-hearted, the large menu is reminiscent of its American inspiration, combining hearty steak with delicate English touches. The restaurant provides an almost endless list of sides including the dangerously sweet Bourbon sweet potato mash.

“Even more delicious than expected, the Steakhouse did not disappoint with its steak!”

We started with the cream of crab soup and the JW Maryland style lump crab cake. Both well cooked, well seasoned and well accompanied; the dishes were a gentle start to, what promised to be, a filling meal.

For our main course we chose fillet steak with a variety of sides including mac ‘n’ cheese, mash potato and buttered spinach. We found the sides filling and rich by themselves, but in small amounts they complimented the steak well. We also accompanied our meal with Stag's Leap, Sauvignon Blanc, Napa, USA 2007.

The steak itself was beautifully tender and certainly justified the JW Steakhouse name. The fillets were perfectly cooked, inside and out, almost negating the need for any side orders. Even more delicious than expected, the Steakhouse did not disappoint with its steak!

Our trip to the JW Steakhouse was very enjoyable which leads us to believe that it deserves its place on the famous Park Lane. We could eat here again in the future.
