1 Lombard Street, situated within the famous square mile, is something to behold. This former bank has an impressively grand exterior, and the interior does not disappoint. Strikingly characteristic, this restaurant boasts a great atmosphere.
Sophisticated in style, this former bank is a popular venue for suit-clad businessmen. The cream walls and impressive featured marble accentuate the space, which includes a large glass copula, designed by Italian architect Pietro Agostini above a circular bar.
We were greeted and shown to our table by a member of the team. The menu boasts a range of ‘comforting classics’, simple dishes, of classic and modern European tastes. To start, we opted for the mixed vegetable risotto off the hot starters section, and the crab and prawn cocktail from the cold starters. The flavours were excellent, and the presentation was gorgeous.
“This really is hearty food at its best.”
For our main courses, we had a fillet steak and a sirloin steak, both with peppercorn sauce. We went with new potatoes, a cone of fries and tossed spinach leaves to accompany our steaks. Everything was cooked perfectly. This really is hearty food at its best.
From the wine list, we enjoyed a bottle of the 2011 Argentinian Malbec, which was a great addition to our meal.
It’s worth noting that 1 Lombard Street do an excellent set meal at a set price in the evenings, with a menu that changes regularly.
All in all, we had a fun experience at 1 Lombard Street. The atmosphere was buzzy, the service good, and the food simple. We were pleasantly surprised by our experience, and although we were expecting good things, the evening did exceed our expectations. We would recommend it to anyone who’s looking for a relaxed yet sophisticated evening.
