This review of the Havana Spoon is a little different. It is a restaurant in Hove, near Birghton that we didn’t eat at. We drank at the bar and people watched while we were in the city and thought it rude not to mention it.
The Havana Spoon is a bistro-style eaterie that is lively, modern and seemed to please its guests. It has two bars, the Copper Bar and the Late Night Lounge and a restaurant.
The building itself is modern, in good condition and largely white. The dining room is also white, with white walls, ceilings, linen, chairs, decorations and even uniforms. There is also the odd black chair spread around to add contrast.
The copper bar, where we visited, has exactly that. A large copper-coloured bar stretching along one wall. There was more colour in here, with dark wood furniture, modern pea green coloured walls and drinks of all colours.
“The Havana Spoon is lively, modern and seemed to please its guests.”
It was lively while we were there, with a full bar, all seats taken and a lively buzz in the air. It’s a nice feeling to walk into, one that makes you feel welcome and wanting a drink and a good time. The service was fast and the range of drinks wide.
We took a look in the Late Night Lounge, which was also buzzing. It had a different character to the Copper Bar. It was more luxurious, with a much more decadent décor that the rest of the venue. Gold furniture, gold leather panelled bench seats, walls and poufs, gold bar and intimate lighting.
The speciality in the Copper Bar is cocktails and we watched some of them being made. The bar staff really seemed to know their stuff, with nicely balanced and great looking cocktails appearing steadily throughout the night. We had a very early start the next day, so didn’t partake, but they did look very tempting.
The Havana Spoon was a lively, vibrant place to spend an early evening. We have no doubt that it livens up even more once night properly falls and will return when in Brighton again and offer a fuller opinion of what we experience. For now, suffice to say we are looking forward to our return.
