On a recent trip to Birmingham whilst staying at the Genting Hotel, we visited Las Iguanas for dinner. There are many dining options around the Genting due to its location at Birmingham’s Resorts World, which is a leisure complex offering shops, a cinema, a casino and restaurants. The complex is casual and relaxed, and we found Las Iguanas to be a highly appropriate choice in terms of where to dine.

On the night we visited, the restaurant was busy and bustling. We were greeted warmly and shown to a table where we perused the menu before making our choices. One big positive that we noted about Las Iguanas is that they are well prepared for all allergy and dietary requirements, and even offer separate menus to save you the arduous task of asking the server what is in each dish.

We decided to start with the nachos to share, which consisted of crispy corn tortilla chips served with melted cheese, pico de gallo salsa, jalapenos, tomato salsa, soured cream and guacamole. We chose for our nachos to come served with chilli con carne, which was a delicious addition to the dish.

“The Picanha was really very tasty, and not too heavy.”

For our main courses, I chose the Picanha which is an 8oz rump steak that comes already sliced and served with Molho à Campanha salsa, salad and chipotle butter. The dish was really very tasty, and not too heavy.

My partner chose the Bahian Coconut Curry, which consisted of chicken pan-fried in cumin with coriander, cayenne pepper and a creamy coconut sauce with ginger, garlic, tomatoes and coriander. This dish came served with spring onion rice as well as shredded greens.

For desert I went with the Mango Secret, which is three scoops of Las Iguana’s handmade Alphonso mango sorbet. This provided the most refreshing end to our meal, with a beautiful fruity flavour. My partner went for the Templeque which is a creamy set coconut putting served with mixed berries and mango puree.

To accompany our meal we chose a bottle of the 2015 Vincola Aurora Verietal Chardonnay, Sera Gaucha, Brazil which offered perfect crisp acidity with a vibrant, fruity palate.
