The Sofitel Berlin Gendarmenmarkt is one of the many city centre hotels in the chain that does the brand proud. The building is nice, the interior is modern and the entire experience is positive.
The location is excellent, in Berlin city centre a short walk from the Reichstag. The concrete exterior isn’t anything to get excited about, but fits in with the surrounding area.
Inside, the building is modern, well decorated and a nice place to be. The lobby is large, high ceilinged and decorated with distinctive artwork, offering plenty of interest for the eye. The receptionist was friendly and efficient, checking us in and showing us quickly to our room.
We had a Luxury Room, which had a Queen sized bed, plenty of space, a small desk, LCD TV, Bose sound system, air conditioning and a nice view of the courtyard garden. There was also a complementary Nespresso machine, Wi-Fi and a bottle of Evian waiting for us in the room.
“The Sofitel Berlin Gendarmenmarkt is a nice place to be.”
The bed was a nice size, with a firm mattress, crisp white bed sheets and plump pillows. It was very comfortable and afforded us a good night sleep. Despite being in the city centre, the insulation and thick windows keep much of the noise outside.
The walls are all white, with accents provided by the furniture and marble floor. There are carpets around the bed to save cold feet, which is nice.
The bathroom was modern, with black marble counters, a standalone sink and walk-in shower. Towels were white and fluffy and everything was sparklingly clean. The highlight of the bathroom were the Hermes toiletries, which we used right away.
The rest of the hotel has a restaurant, the Aigner, the Aigner Bar, a gym and a spa. Both the gym and spa are well proportioned and fully-equipped, a nice touch for a city hotel. Both are well worth a visit if you stay here.
Our time at the Sofitel Berlin Gendarmenmarkt was entirely positive. The standards are high and everything is designed to make the guest feel comfortable. It’s a good location and somewhere we would happily return.
