The Seven Sins of Alexandra Dudley |
Cook book author, Land & Sea |
|
Artist, Londoner and entrepreneur, Alexandra will travel far for good food and good art. A home cook at heart, her cooking approach is heavily influenced by the food from her mother's table and her European heritage.
A curiosity for travel and a love for Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cuisine play into the inspiration of her recipes which marry bold flavours with local ingredients.
Alexandra is a firm believer in using seasonal, quality ingredients favouring neighbourhood markets and British farm produce.
Sustainability is key to Alexandra's way of eating and living and she is a firm believer in never throwing food away. Her debut cookbook Land and Sea (July 2017) brings sustainable eating to the table in true flavour and style. With advice on using the whole ingredient (no matter what it is); how you can make the most of leftovers; and how to be creative with herbs and spices, these recipes ensure every meal is delicious as the last.
As well as menu developing and food styling, Alexandra hosts regular supper clubs and cookery classes from her home in East London. |

Wrath - What makes you angry about the hospitality industry?
Not being able to book. It’s a real trend now and whilst I do love the spontaneity of a last minute supper it can a real pain having to queue up from 6.00pm to get your name down.
Greed - If all your food fantasies came true what would be on your Plate?
Hard one as I’d really need two plates, one savory and one sweet. Savory would probably be a big thai feast: pad thai, thai green curry, woked vegetables and lots of chilli and my sweet would definitely be a huge ice cream Sundae: dark chocolate, pistachio, hazelnut and lots of sticky chocolate syrup.
Sloth - What do you do to unwind?
Cooking actually and usually to a good soundtrack. Chet Baker or Ella Fitzgerald and a bit of peeling and chopping calms me right down. If my head is too ‘busy’ which it often is as I worry a lot then I will watch some sort of rubbish on Netflix.
Pride - What are you most proud of?
Probably my cook-book Land & Sea. It was a childhood dream of mine to write a cook-book and so was rather a pinch me moment when I finally got to do it.
Lust - Is there anything that you are still lusting to achieve?
A lot. I have new dreams every day, some very far-fetched but others a little more realistic. I’d really like to open a creative bed and breakfast or retreat of some sort. My background was in art before I ventured into food so I think it would be wonderful to marry the two and create a space or destination where people could experience both.
Envy - who are you most envious of?
Tough one. I try not to be jealous as it’s an unhealthy trait but probably someone who gets to travel a lot. I have a constant itch to travel and haven’t done it nearly enough. I'd love to go to India!
Gluttony - have you ever over indulged?
Who hasn’t! I have never been one of those with a small appetite and can quite happily get through half a cake if its left unattended. I think the ‘worst’ time I over indulged was on a school trip. They had a chocolate fountain and I went all in. By the end of it I felt so sick I had to sit very still with a cold flannel on my head to try and soothe the nausea. I’m not sure I’d rush to a chocolate fountain again.
