The Seven Sins of Simon Rogan |
Chef |
|
Over the past 25 years Simon has developed his distinctive and inventive cooking style that has led to awards, Michelin stars and worldwide acclaim. Simon Rogan has recently been named the AA Chef of the Year 2017.
Building a culinary destination in Cartmel, in the southern Lake District, Simon opened L'Enclume, a restaurant with rooms in 2002, followed by Rogan & Company in 2008. L’Enclume currently holds 2 Michelin stars, and was named Good Food Guide’s number 1 Restaurant in 2017 for the fourth consecutive year, with a score of 10/10. Developing his commitment to the area, since 2009 Simon has had his own farm just outside Cartmel.
Simon also launched Fera at Claridge’s in May 2014, his first full-time restaurant in London. |

Fera achieved a Michelin star less than four months from opening. Fera means ‘wild’ in Latin and reflects the powerful connection to nature that’s at the heart of the restaurant – from the highly seasonal ingredients, to the out-of-the-box creativity that is developed in the kitchen.
Renowned chef Simon Rogan’s ever-changing à la carte and tasting menus capture the true essence of nature through its textures, tastes and sense of perpetual evolution. |

Wrath - What makes you angry about the hospitality industry?
Lack of attention to detail.
Greed - If all your food fantasies came true what would be on your Plate?
If that was the case, there would be no plate that is big enough but if I limit myself to 3 dishes it might be Michel Bras’s Gargouille, Paul Bocuse’s truffle soup and Alain Ducasse’s Rum baba.
Sloth - What do you do to unwind?
I like listening to music or watching films indoors and I like to walk and cycle when I am outdoors.
Pride - What are you most proud of?
That’s easy, I am extremely proud of the achievements of my restaurants L’Enclume, Fera at Claridge’s and Rogan & Co and the reputation we have within our industry.
Lust - Is there anything that you are still lusting to achieve?
A healthy work/life balance. Getting a bit old now so need to clam down a bit.
Envy - who are you most envious of?
I don’t envy anyone, it’s not a nice trait but I would love to have as many cars and watches as James Martin.
Gluttony - have you ever over indulged?
I am a chef so of course I over-indulge, although I’m definitely trying to be more sensible now and try to look after myself a bit more.
