The Seven Sins of Kelly Liken

    Chef/Owner Restaurant Kelly Liken
    Kelly Liken
Kelly Liken is the award-winning chef and owner behind her eponymous restaurant located in the world-class resort town of Vail, CO.

A James Beard nominee for Best Chef Southwest (2009, 2010, 2011), Liken’s enthusiasm and passion for utilizing ingredients unique to the Rocky Mountain region is exemplified in her extraordinary seasonal American menu as well as her tenet “Live in Season.”

One of Colorado’s most promising and influential young chefs, Liken was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. After graduation from the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, Liken headed west to work at Splendido at the Château in Beaver Creek, Colorado.

In 2004 she opened Restaurant Kelly Liken with her husband and business partner Rick Colomitz. Liken works closely with local farmers, ranchers, and artisan purveyors to develop a culinary program that reflects the bounty of Colorado.

She has appeared on the Food Network’s Iron Chef America and Season 7 of Bravo’s “Top Chef D.C.”.

Wrath - What makes you angry about the hospitality industry?
    Kelly Liken Seven Sins
I hate it when a server says "no problem" in response to a customers order or request for something. Why would there be a problem? Isn't that the whole point about dining out?

Greed - If all your food fantasies came true what would be on your Plate?
    Kelly Liken Seven Sins
Florida Stone Crab Claws with Joe's Mustard Sauce and a steamed artichoke with hollandaise. I know it sounds weird, but they are my 2 all time favorite foods!

Sloth - What do you do to unwind?
    Kelly Liken Seven Sins
Craft! I love to do all kinds of crafty things. Quilting, drawing, origami.

Pride - What are you most proud of?
    Kelly Liken Seven Sins
My restaurant. I am proud that we've made it a decade, I'm proud that I pulled it off at 27 yrs old, and I'm proud that my customers still want to continue returning to see what we'll come up with next.

Lust - Is there anything that you are still lusting to achieve?
    Kelly Liken Seven Sins
Of course! I'll never be done learning, striving and hopefully acheiving!

Envy - who are you most envious of?
    Kelly Liken Seven Sins
I don't spend much time or energy on envy. Honestly I can't really think of anyone.

Gluttony - have you ever over indulged?
    Kelly Liken Seven Sins
Hasn't everyone?! My overindulgences usually have to do with a little too much bourbon, or sometimes cake!
