Andrew Stembridge BA Hons FIH is Managing Director of Chewton Glen and in February 2012 he also became MD of Cliveden and the driving force behind an ambitious three year project, which will see the next chapter in this iconic hotel’s history unfold.
He graduated from the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow with joint honours in Hotel Management & Tourism and has since attended the GMP at Cornell University and BLP at Cranfield University, both courtesy of MI scholarships. The highlight of his career was being crowned The Caterer & Hotelkeeper, Hotelier of the Year in 2010. Andrew believes in doing his bit for charity and as well as running the London Marathon twice for a local cancer charity. |

Wrath - What makes you angry about the hospitality industry?
Young people who have no common sense. Children as so molly-coddled these days that they lack intuition and general life skills, which are vital in our industry. There are many exceptions however not enough...
Greed - If all your food fantasies came true what would be on your Plate?
A frenzy of Shellfish followed by a Rare Fillet with Béarnaise Sauce. I’d skip dessert and keep trucking with the Red wine...
Sloth - What do you do to unwind?
Truth is that I don’t ever sit down, much to my family’s annoyance. If I need to de-stress I go for a run along the coast to Mudeford, preferably with our Chocolate Lab, Hamish.
Pride - What are you most proud of?
Personally my two children Harry and Charlotte who never cease to amaze me and my 300 bike ride from London to Paris last year raising £15K for Hospitality Action. Professionally becoming MD of Chewton Glen at 32 was quite an achievement and then being crowned Hotelier of the Year in 2010.
Lust - Is there anything that you are still lusting to achieve?
I am not a greedy person and I feel very fortunate to have a job that I love. In an ideal world though I would have a bolt hole in the alps so I could ski more often and generally more time with the family as they tend to get neglected.
Envy - who are you most envious of?
I don’t believe I am. Envy is an awful state of mind and too many people believe the grass is greener. In our business we have the luxury of meeting so many people and often the people with everything are dreadfully unhappy. I feel blessed to have a loving intact family and a great career – what more could ask for...
Gluttony - have you ever over indulged?
Where should I start?! I’m actually very careful these days however a good blow out now and again is always to be encouraged.
