If you still haven’t heard of Halo Top ice cream, then where have you been? Ever since we were introduced to this brand, we’ve been hooked. The best part about it; it’s not even a guilty pleasure. As the name would suggest, you’ll feel positively angelic whilst enjoying this ice cream, which comes in at only 320-374 calories per tub.
Justin Woolverton and Doug Bouton launched the company in 2012, after perfecting the recipe over a long period of trial and error. Being on a rather strict diet at the time, Woolverton was eating greek yoghurt with fruit and sweetner, when he had the bright idea of buying an ice cream maker and trying out his snack in ice cream form. He was relatively happy with the result, so refined the recipe to include milk, ensuring a more realistic ice cream texture; and Halo Top was born.
The ride wasn’t easy, and in the early days the company struggled to make sales, but Woolverton and Bouton truly believed in their product (which we agree is absolutely delicious), so with a strong social media strategy behind them, they really took the world by storm through clever, tactical marketing campaigns. The company is now worth $2bn, and there’s a reason it’s so popular.
Whilst satisfying sweet cravings, eating a whole tub won’t make you feel like a diet failure, and you really do believe that you’re truly eating ice cream. There’s nothing not to love. We have tried many flavours, including sea salt caramel, peanut butter cup, birthday cake, candy bar, strawberry cheesecake and chocolate chip cookie dough. Each one was extremely delicious, and we thoroughly recommend all of them.
"Halo Top comes highly recommended by us as our new found not-so-guilty pleasure.”
If you’re looking to try some, you also won’t have to look too far. Available to buy at most supermarkets, including Tesco and Co-op, Halo Top has really hit the mainstream, and we’re totally sold, along with the rest of the country. Halo Top provides a great alternative to traditional ice cream as a treat, and we were pleased to learn that there are also dairy free and gluten free options available, which is fantastic for those with allergies or intolerances.
If you’re looking to indulge a bit more but not quite as far as traditional ice cream, then Halo Top have also released a platinum range, which ranges from 676-692 calories per tub, bringing all the luxury of ice cream with significantly less calories. The also offer ice cream bars, which suggest some portion control, with the platinum range coming in at between 166-176 calories.
We’re certain that Halo Top offer something for everyones’ taste or dietary requirement, with little to no guilt involved. We’ve thoroughly enjoyed working our way through the flavours, and we’re sure you will too. Halo Top comes highly recommended by us as our new found not-so-guilty pleasure.
