The Palace hotel in Sliema, Malta is a local 5-star rated hotel on the north side of the island. It is a high quality hotel, slightly inland but with views of the Mediterranean from the rooftop pool.

The location is good, near to everything Sliema has to offer and within a couple of minutes’ walk to the coast. There is plenty of local transport, including water taxis around, so you’re never far away from anything.

The hotel is modern, with a very modern interior. The lobby is large, airy and very clean-looking. The white décor with coloured accents and rich wood furniture are a great combination both for the hotel and to complement the surrounding area.

We were quickly checked in and escorted to our Music Suite. The service was fast, efficient and performed with a smile. We were made to feel welcome from the very first, which is a great start to any break.

Our suite was large and very light indeed. The white walls, white floor and black accents led to a very modern, slick feel to the space. The large black and white pictures of music legends throughout the suite breathed much welcome life into proceedings.

Continuing on the musical theme, one of the highlights, although least useful for the musically challenged, are the instruments spread around, including a full drum kit. Fortunately, the hotel is well-insulated so our attempts at music didn’t disturb the other guests!

“The Palace hotel is an excellent hotel with superb facilities and service that makes you feel valued as a guest.”

The rest of the suite was of an excellent quality, with a large, comfortable bed, sofa, recliner and coffee table. There was a large LCD TV, integrated stereo system and everything we needed to make our stay a good one. Black wood furniture complemented the monochrome look, giving an extremely contemporary feel to the space.

The bed was great, a nice firm mattress, soft sheets, plump pillows and a very comfortable feeling. Given the lightness of the décor, we were pleased to see the curtains blocked out the majority of the light, allowing us to get a great nights’ sleep.

The bathroom was equally large and shared the décor of the rest of the suite. It had a large bath, separate shower, soft towels and some nice products. It was in excellent conditions, utterly clean and gave us no problems whatsoever.

Another highlight of the suite was the balcony. It came complete with sun loungers and great views over the town. We spent quite a bit of time out there with a morning coffee and a last look before bed. It was a superb beginning and end to our day.

The rest of the hotel echoes the quality and cleanliness of our suite. There are a number of other suites in the hotel, all themed, such as the Texture Suite, View Suite, Light Suite, and a selection of Palazzo Capua Suites, which we didn’t get to explore during out visit.

The hotel has an excellent rooftop infinity pool that seems to be extremely popular during the day. Seating is at a premium, but it’s a glorious way to spend an afternoon. There is a bar on the same level, called Lounge360, which is open until early morning so you can enjoy the views and open air cocktails with style.

The Palace also has The Tabloid Restaurant and TemptAsian Restaurant. All interesting plays on words that delivered on their promises. Each provided great food, drinks and looked after us very well.

Locally rated at 5-star, it isn’t the equivalent of a UK 5-star. That said, it’s an excellent hotel with superb facilities and service that makes you feel valued as a guest. We would happily visit here again.
