The Loews Hotel is a beautiful beach side hotel in Santa Monica, on arrival the entrance is a subtle and uninspiring but the experience of staying in this hotel felt quite special. There is an air of it being somewhere uxorious and I couldn’t quite put my finger on what it was.
My room was spacious, with a massive wardrobe which could easily accommodate my weeks worth of clothes. The bed was comfortable with huge pillows and cosy bedding which made for a fabulous nights sleep. The room overlooked the swimming pool and I had a side view of the ocean and beach so pulling the curtains in the morning was a pleasure.
Being a beach hotel the outdoor pool was large and the sunbathing area was substantial, it wasn’t high Summer on my visit so there was no fighting for sun loungers and the pool wasn’t too busy - plenty of space to swim. The best thing about this hotel is its enormous gym, rows and rows of treadmills, bikes and cross trainers all complimentary to hotel guests. It also boasts a spa, perfect if you’re looking to inject a bit of All American glamour.
The location of this hotel is perfect, although a good 20 minutes from Hollywood; you have Venice beach and 3rd street promenade within walking distance. Also there are several great beach side restaurants in the area. Bike, skate and even Segway hire are just found the corner so there is plenty to do and perfect for the young, fit and free.
Staying at the Loews doesn’t come cheap but it is one of the nicest places I have stayed in Los Angeles, also everything here is extra and breakfast can be expensive. Everything in the breakfast room is made to order, I tried something different each morning and I didn’t find anything that wasn’t delicious.
