Unbeatable views, an idyllic location and authentic Japanese cuisine - this is Yamashiro, Hollywood.
If you’re looking for faultless sushi, combined with sensational views of LA, then this is the restaurant for you. Whilst we only sampled the sushi menu, this is a well established Japanese restaurant in the heart of the Hollywood hills - N. Sycamore Avenue to be precise.
The evening commenced with two Western cocktails: a Norman’s Mai Tai, light and dark rums, fused with passion fruit; and a Moscow Mule - vodka, homemade ginger beer, squeeze of lime.
We then headed east for more traditional wares: a Lychee Martini - a delightful concoction of vodka, lychee sake, and lychee juice; and a Pineapple Sake-tini, crafted in exquisite fashion with house-infused pineapple sake, pineapple vodka, and lemon juice.
After our initial rendezvous with Japanese culture in the beverage form, we were eager to discover more from their culinary scene.
“The combination of textures and flavours were very impressive"
After perusing the culinary offering, we decided to opt for three types of sushi; the first being the spicy tuna crispy rice with black tobiko, accompanied with micro arugula. The combination of textures and flavours were very impressive, and delivered the Far East experience we had hoped for. The second was spicy lobster with cucumber, avocado, bacon, and basil-artichoke sauce. Again, the Japanese twist on a delicacy such as lobster was divine, and set up high hopes for the third and final dish: crunchy tempura shrimp, snow crab, and avocado, dressed with a house-made eel sauce. The light crispy tempura batter enhanced the taste of the shrimp exponentially, whilst ensuring that the snow crab, avocado and house made eel sauce were flavoured to perfection.
The entire evening was a joy to experience, and combined with the stunning views and authentic sushi, this is a Japanese restaurant I’d recommend to anyone.
