Pearls Rooftop is perched among some of the famous rock bars and clubs on Sunset Boulevard. Sunset Boulevard is the soul of Los Angeles, there's something for everyone down this street and the atmosphere in this area in the evening is electric. Pearls is a restaurant and bar on the first floor and offers seating inside and outside. We were lucky enough to dine on their outside terrace when we visited. We were treated to views overlooking Sunset Boulevard, and being a people watcher this was perfect.
The restaurant has a fun and casual atmosphere with fast and friendly service. We were unsure what to expect when ordering, however I can positively say that the quality of the cuisine was everything but disappointing. If you're looking for a relaxed, fun evening with good food and superb cocktails, Pearls Rooftop is one to visit.
We started by ordering a couple of pre-dinner cocktails, I ordered the 'Southern Sweet Tea', a sweet cocktail mixed with Sazerac Rye, Peach Ginger Iced Tea, Lemon Juice and Mint. My partner ordered the 'Ginger Rogers'. Which was mixed with Svedka Vodka, Ginger Beer, Tarragon, Lime, and Yellow Bell Pepper. The Pepper gave the drink a nice subtle kick and blended perfectly with the Tarragon. We also ordered a bottle of wine. We choose a bottle of Uppercut Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa, CA, 2013. A gorgeous black cherry wine with strong blackberry aromas.
“Pearls gets a thumbs up from us.”
To begin we ordered Grilled and Chilled Shrimp, served with a house made Cocktail Sauce and Fresh Lemon. I'm not sure of the recipe for the home made sauce but it was delicious. The shrimp were fresh and well-presented, a wonderful dish. We also ordered Maine Lobster Tacos. The Lobster is poached in Butter and served with Crisp Iceberg, Remoulade and served in Crunchy Tortillas. Two excellent starters to start the evening, and had us looking forward to sampling more dishes.
For our main dishes we ordered Chilean Sea Bass, served with Roasted Root Vegetables, Braised Greens, Scallion Oil and Lemon Buerre Blanc. I have to say the Sea Bass was delicious, I couldn't fault the dish. My partner ordered the Petite Filet, served with Whipped Potatoes, Buttered Leeks, and a Red Wine Reduction. This is a dish packed with flavour and personality. We added a side of beautifully prepared Grilled Corn with a Chili Lime Butter to round off the course.
R32;We couldn't manage a dessert, but left the restaurant more than satisfied with each dish we sampled. Pearls gets a thumbs up from us.
