We had often walked past Busaba Eathai in Soho and it was difficult not to notice the regular queue outside, so we thought it was about time we found out for ourselves what all the hype was about.
Busaba Eathai is probably not the place you would go if you were after a relaxing meal... Instead of a traditional restaurant setup, Busaba Eathai sees tables and benches with shoulder-to-shoulder customers. It certainly is a little bit different, but we ended up having a joyful evening. We chose a bench with a street view, which was perfect for my favourite sport - people watching!

We started with a glass of prosecco whilst perusing the menu. Also breaking traditions, Busaba Eathai’s menu is fairly simple, and doesn’t abide by the usual format of starters, mains and desserts. Instead, you are encouraged to choose a side dish as an ideal starter, if you so wish. However, we decided to choose a selection of dishes to share at the same time.
We chose to share the tofu pad Thai jay; the chicken with butternut squash, cashew nuts and chilli; the crabmeat egg fried rice with spring onion; the prawn curry with pineapple and chilli and the fish cakes with cucumber and peanut relish. We washed it all down with a bottle of the Australian Merlot. We thoroughly enjoyed everything we tasted at Busaba Eathai.
Although unsure of what to make of the whole concept, the food we experienced was both fresh and flavoursome, and we had a really fun time. We would certainly recommend Busaba Eathai as a great restaurant if you’re looking for something a bit different at a very reasonable price point.
