André Garrett at Cliveden is located within Cliveden House. The restaurant is set in a stunning dining room, and as the name suggests, André Garrett is at the helm so you are in good hands. The service is at its absolute finest and we were looked after very well for the entire evening. We opted for the tasting menu and were blown away by the creativity and presentation of the dishes throughout the evening.
We started with two fine glasses of Taittinger, Brut Prestige Rosé. A delightful champagne with an aroma of wild strawberries and a hint of spice.
Our first dish of the evening was Salad of Devon Crab, with Avocado, Espelette Pepper, Chickweed, and Lemon Puree. A wonderfully refreshing dish to start with, the Crab was superb and the flavours of the dish worked perfectly. This was paired with a glass of 2013, Riesling, Dreissigacker, Rheinhessen, Germany.
For our next dish we enjoyed Foie Gras Au Torchon, served with Rhubarb, Pistachio Granola, and Tokyo Turnip. An interestingly crafted dish and beautifully presented and the Rhubarb was a welcomed ingredient. This was paired with a glass of 2012, Gewurztraminer, Grand Cru Eichberg, Alsace, France.
“The tasting menu delivered superb dishes one after the other.”
Next, we sampled the Roast Fillet of Turbot Grenobloise, with Cockles, Braised Celery Hearts, and a Chicory Condiment. The Turbot Grenobloise was cooked to perfection, we can’t fault this dish in any way. This was paired with a glass of 2013, Gruner Veltiner, Weingut Soellner, Wagram, Austria.
Our next dish was Locally Stalked Fallow Deer, with Salt-Baked Celeriac, Pear, Boulangere, and Chocolate. The Deer was a tender, flavoursome cut and the Celeriac and Chocolate gave the dish a unique, and interesting flavour. This was paired with a Chianti Rufina Classico, Basciano, Tusan, Italy.
Next, we were served a Waldorf Salad, with Bath Blue, Celery, French Walnuts, Granny Smith, and Concord Grape Gel. A divine salad, delicately arranged with the perfect balance of flavours. This dish was paired with a glass of 2012, CH Petit Guiraud, Sauternes, France.
We finished our evening with Variations of Chocolate and Mint, this dish comprised of Ganache, Aero, Crumble, and Moroccan Mint Ice Cream. A delicious selection of rich and indulgent flavours. This was paired with a 2009, Recioto Della Valpolicella, Lonardi, Veneto Italy.
We had a faultless evening, the tasting menu delivered superb dishes one after the other. We certainly wouldn’t hesitate to visit again.
