Fifteen, Amsterdam, is part of the Jamie Oliver chain of restaurants and was setup as a charity to help disadvantaged people learn about restaurants. Fifteen takes on young people between the ages of 17-25 years old and educates them in becoming a host, hostess or chef.
We were greeted warmly on arrival and shown to our table. The restaurant is located outside central Amsterdam, but was fairly busy when we were there and there was a great atmosphere.
“On the side, we had some of the most amazing ‘funky’ potatoes I have ever tasted...”
We did have to wait a little longer than usual for our water to arrive – around 15 minutes – but our food certainly made up for that.
To start, we chose the creamy soup of lentils with spicy lamb meatballs and crispy pastry with cumin and coriander; and the risotto of wild mushrooms, mascarpone and pangratatto.
For our main courses, we moved on to the grilled rib-eye steak with roasted sweet onion, spicy rocket and out-of-the-oven potato pie, served with a slice of the restaurant’s homemade truffle butter; and the roasted venison from the Veluwe served with caponata of parsnip and Jerusalem artichoke gravy.
On the side, we had a green salad with parmesan and some of the most amazing ‘funky’ potatoes I have ever tasted – cooked with chili, garlic and parsley.
We chose a bottle of French Pinot Grigio to accompany our meal, which went down very nicely.
We were impressed with the quality of the food at Fifteen. The Chefs are obviously very well trained, as everything was cooked to perfection. The presentation was also impeccable, and we left very satisfied indeed.
We would certainly recommend Fifteen as a great restaurant to visit in Amsterdam. Not only is the food great, but the service is also good and the restaurant provides a lovely escape the hustle and bustle of central Amsterdam.
