The Royal International Air Tattoo, commonly known as the "Air Tattoo," is a popular event among aviation enthusiasts and the general public alike. Held annually at the Royal Air Force Fairford base in Gloucestershire, England, the 2022 edition of Air Tattoo was a fantastic experience and a wonderful day out. So, if you are interested in aviation or want an enjoyable day out, highlight the dates in your calendar for Air Tattoo 2023!

The village green was the perfect spot to relax, unwind and watch the fantastic aviation displays away from the noise and the excitement of the main event space. The village green was beautifully decorated with flags and bunting, and plenty of seating options were available - perfect for the kids and parents to enjoy the atmosphere, listen to live music and grab a cold drink from the pop-up vendors.

The event was perfectly set up, offering a variety of food trucks, from classic burgers and hot dogs to Chinese street food. The food quality was pretty good, all the food trucks were spread around different areas of the event, making it easy and convenient to grab a bite to eat between displays and live music!

"Whether you are an aviation enthusiast or just looking for a fun day out, this event should be the airshow to highlight."

One of our highlights of the weekend was the day we spied Tom Cruise - he was at the event to promote his latest Hollywood movie, Maverick - and his arrival caused quite a stir with the crowds. This was such a great surprise for all the attendees, and it was a great kept secret - Having Tom Cruise at the event was excellent as his passion for aircraft and flying has helped catapult aviation into the spotlight, a chance for kids to be genuinely inspired.

However, the flying displays were the main event; and they did not disappoint. The airshows, from the Red Arrows to the Eurofighter Typhoon, were thrilling and awe-inspiring. The planes flew low and high over the airfield, executing incredible manoeuvres and leaving trails of smoke in the wake. The noise was deafening, but this only added to the excitement!

After three long years of the event not happening and a gap in the calendar, it was great to see a crowd of over 200,000 attendees - and even better to see the RAF airshow, entertainment and pure family fun throughout the weekend! They definitely pulled out all the stops to ensure everyone had a magical Royal International Air Show! Everything was great, from the diverse range of food trucks, the village green that provided a space to relax from busy crowds, and the Tom Cruise spy. So, whether you are an aviation enthusiast or just looking for a fun day out, this event should be the airshow to highlight.
