Planning A Winter Proposal? Here's 4 of the most Romantic Hotels in the UK

    25 October, 2019

There is no right or wrong time of year to propose, it all depends on you and your partner as a couple, but statistically, most engagements occur during the winter months. With many of us spending more time together over the winter months, thanks to the dark nights and cold weather, there are some great opportunities to propose to your other half.

Many people go away for a romantic weekend, start to wind down for the Christmas period or just want to pop the question somewhere idyllic and peaceful. There are many quaint and romantic hotels and locations in the UK just waiting to be the perfect backdrop for your special moment, so if you’re planning and preparing a winter proposal, here are 4 of the most romantic hotels you can find in the UK.

    Bedruthan Hotel & Spa, Cornwall

The Bedruthan Hotel & Spa in Cornwall is an award-winning hotel which sits on a hilltop, overlooking the golden sands and ocean of Mawgan Porth in North Cornwall. A winter getaway here is extremely romantic and relaxing, with weekends full of beach walks, hot chocolates and watching the sunset and the hotel are happy to provide flasks of hot drink and homemade cookies if you want to head out on a walk - what could be more romantic than a beach proposal? The Bedruthan hotel is also home to a spa, which comes complete with a sea view, meaning you can just relax in the hydro pool or cedar and eucalyptus steam room if the weather gets too bad.

    Careys Manor Hotel, Hampshire

A beautiful and characteristic manor house, the Careys Manor Hotel is the perfect location for an idyllic weekend retreat if you live in London. Surrounded by 14 acres of gardens, there are plenty of spots for you to get down on one knee with very few people around. If you are planning on proposing here, speak to the hotel about the Roof Terrace Suite or Pittefaux Cottage, as these are set in quiet corners of the grounds where you are welcomed with a wonderful hamper filled with goodies to make your proposal all that more special. With cosy pubs, picturesque villages to wander around and stunning scenery, the Careys Manor Hotel is ideal if you just want to get away from it all for a few days with your partner.

Gilpin Hotel and Lake House, Windermere

The Lake District is one of the most romantic and beautiful locations in the UK, with the ability to make your proposal personal depending on what it is you want. The Gilpin Hotel is located in Windermere and is famed for its exceptional food and wonderful setting, surrounded by 21 acres. This hotel is unlike any other in the area and consists of multiple buildings. The main hotel is quirky and modern, as you’d expect from a country house, yet scattered around the grounds you’ll find a two-storey restaurant and a dozen lodges and suites. Just over a mile away, surrounded by 100 acres of private land, you’ll find the Lake House, which is a six-bedroom re-built fishing lodge overlooking the namesake and comes with a dedicated staff force to make your stay special.

    Glenapp Castle, Ayrshire

Nestled away on the stunning Ayrshire coast, you’ll find Glenapp castle. Sat on a 36-acre estate, complete with fairytale-style turrets, couples can find themselves exploring the castle’s grounds or heading into the Scottish countryside for long, winter walks and beautiful views. If you’re looking for a memorable proposal spot with a view, then this is the ideal location, just don’t forget your bespoke engagement ring, as it’s a long walk back! There is a wide range of rooms and suites which come with cosy fires and four-poster beds and the attentive staff can provide anything from hot water bottles to private helicopter transfers to ease the stress of your proposal. Falconry displays are even available on request if you want a proposal which is a little different!
