The Restaurant L'Arc in Paris is one of the most chic destinations in the city. If you want to see the glitterati, fashionistas and any other pigeonholed smart person in Paris, you could do worse than start here. The bar and restaurant is upstairs, with the L'Arc nightclub below. It’s a cool place to see, and be seen.

It isn’t pretentious though, the atmosphere was nice and relaxed and the drinks were excellent. Always a good combination in my book.

We began with cocktails, as it would have been rude not to in a place like this. A vodka sour and a t-ten later we were ready for our meal. We were seated and proffered the menu, then left to make our choices.

We started with a burratta and king crab. The burrata is like a cheese ball stuffed with cream. It was served with cherry tomatoes and was a light start. The king crab was served in a salad with oil and beetroot “candy”. It was light again, but the flavour of the crab was just great. Fishy, but not too fishy. Light but meaty at the same time.

For main we have fillet of beef and salmon. The beef wasn’t just beef, it was “the famous Argentinean de L’arc beef fillet.” It was served with chunky chips and a herb salad. I have eaten beef a lot, but this was one of the best. It was hot, juicy, and succulent.

The Salmon was served with a spicy Thai sauce that set it off beautifully. The meat was tender and fell apart in the mouth. The chilli in the Thai sauce was the perfect companion to such a light preparation.

Dessert was Molleux and Dominos chocolate ice cream. Both were rich, creamy and sweet enough to leave you wanting more. A delight for the palate and the perfect way to round off a very enjoyable meal.

The Restaurant L'Arc is a great place to visit. It’s cool and contemporary with no obvious delusions of grandeur. It backs all that up with great food and a great experience.
