After previously visiting Beach Blanket Babylon and having an enjoyable evening we were keen to return. We love the interiors of this restaurant, it’s a lively venue with plenty of atmosphere. Our server looked after us very well and we enjoyed our evening.

We started our evening with a couple of pre-dinner cocktails, I decided on their ‘A Walk in Shoreditch’, a cocktail mixed with Abuelo Anejo Rum, Amaretto, Coconut, Passion Fruit Juice, Fresh Lime and a dash of Pineapple. A refreshing fruity cocktail, not quite the tropics, but close enough. My partner sampled the ‘Hanging Gardens of’, this cocktail was mixed with a refreshing blend of Gin, Shaken with Crushed Apples, Cranberry and a hint of Elderflower. A delicious cocktail, simple but well-executed.

To begin with we ordered the Burrata with Fig, Olive Oil and Honeycomb. A simple dish but incredibly rewarding and beautifully presented. We also ordered the Chargrilled Squid which was served with Padron Peppers and Chorizo. The Squid and Chorizo made for a good combination, and one we’d happily order again.

"A haven of flamboyant charm."

Moving on to our main course we decided on the Chateaubriand served on a thick wooden carving board, with Béarnaise Sauce along with a generous helping of Beef Fat Chips. The Chateaubriand was a tender and juicy cut, we specified how we like our steak and indeed it was delivered exactly as specified. We added sides of Spinach with Pine Nuts, as well as Sprouting Broccoli with Pickled Walnuts.

There were a number of tempting dessert options. We settled on sharing a Baked Vanilla Cheesecake with Salted Caramel Ice Cream. Which I have to add was a splendid end to an evening of rather good food. Our chosen wine for the evening was a 2011, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru, Chateau Viramiere, Bordeaux, France. A powerful red with a complex nose of ripe Fruits and subtle a hint of Vanilla.

Beach Blanket Babylon once again delivered an enjoyable evening. It’s a haven of flamboyant charm and gets a firm recommendation from us.
