During our stay at the wonderful Castadiva Resort on the banks of Lake Como Italy, we were lucky enough to sample the beautiful cuisine. The restaurant at the Castadiva resort is called L’Orangerie and is located outside the main building, accessible either across the beautiful gardens or through a glass tunnel.

We were greeted in the restaurant by the sound of a piano. The piano player provided the ambiance throughout the whole meal, which was a great accompaniment and made for a very relaxing atmosphere. Although, it would be difficult not to relax in front of the amazing views overlooking Lake Como through the restaurant’s floor-to-ceiling windows. Unfortunately it was raining during our visit; otherwise we would have made the most of the outdoor terrace.

“The steak was perfectly cooked, which was just one indication of the expert skills of the Chef.”

The menu made for a delicious read and featured authentic Italian dishes with modern twists. To start, we went for the garlic, olive oil, chili pepper ‘Fresine di Gragnano’ pasta with shrimp and buffalo mozzarella; and the gnocchi with fresh herbs pesto. The delicious flavours of the fresh local ingredients were impeccable, and we couldn’t wait for our main courses to arrive.

For our main courses, we opted for the T-bone steak ‘Florentina’ style, which came served with sage potatoes. The steak was perfectly cooked, which was just one indication of the expert skills of the Chef. We were very impressed.

The restaurant also offers an excellent wine list and our dinner was accompanied perfectly by a fresh and crisp bottle of Pinot Grigio. It was perfect.

We would thoroughly recommend dining at this restaurant, not only for its spectacular location, but also for its atmosphere, service and impeccable cuisine. It’s a must visit if you’re in the area.
