Latitude 45 can be found located inside Palazzo Matteotti in Milan. As the name suggests, this restaurant is on the rooftop of the hotel. It’s the eighth floor to be precise and has a menu offering traditional Italian and seasonal dishes, and the kitchen utilises a lot of fresh, locally sourced produce.

With seating options both inside the restaurant and outside on the terrace, we would strongly recommend sitting outside. Here you have unobstructed views of the busy city streets and the Duomo di Milano, which we have to say is pretty impressive.

If you’re visiting during the evening you’ll also be treated to some incredible sights as you witness the sun setting and see the city of Milan lighting up and changing as the vibrant nightlife culture starts to emerge.

“We would definitely recommend visiting the restaurant, even if it’s just to enjoy an aperitivo.”

We decided to begin our evening with an aperitif while we browsed the menu. Settling on a couple of glasses of Veuve Clicquot Rose, a vibrant and fresh champagne which we always enjoy.

To begin, I went for the beetroot and green apple salad, with walnuts and Dijon mustard. A simple, yet delightful salad prepared with fresh seasonal ingredients. My partner decided on the seared octopus, with purple potatoes and apple vinegar. Another choice we were very happy with, the octopus was delicious.

For our main course, I opted for the slow cooked amberjack fillet, served with olive oil and aromatic bread. A wonderfully presented dish, with mild seasoning allowing the taste of the amberjack to be at the forefront. My partner decided on the sea bass, which was infused with lemongrass, and served on a bed of baby fennel and spinach. Another superb dish showcasing the mastery coming from the kitchen.

We also enjoyed a bottle of 2014 Vaona Paverno, Amarone della Valpolicella Classico DOCG, Italy. A powerful and structured red with a very mature taste, perfect with our main courses and an enjoyable wine we’re happy to recommend.

We have to mention the staff and service at Latitude 45. We found each member of staff we encountered to be very friendly, and nothing was too much trouble for them. Even if you’re not staying at Palazzo Matteotti, we would definitely recommend visiting the restaurant, even if it’s just to enjoy an aperitivo.
