The Seven Sins of Marcus Wareing

    Owner of Marcus Wareing Restaurants
    Marcus Wareing
Marcus Wareing is one of Britain’s most respected and acclaimed chefs and restaurateurs. Originally from Southport, Merseyside, the son of a fruit and vegetable merchant, Marcus began his career at the young age of 18.

An incredible talent, he started acquiring Michelin stars aged just 25 - one of only a handful of chefs to be recognised at such a young age.

Over the last 25 years Marcus has been involved in the creation of many of London’s most iconic and celebrated restaurants including his own restaurant group.

Founded in 2008 with his wife Jane, Marcus Wareing Restaurants began with the opening of the two Michelin starred Marcus Wareing at The Berkeley - 2014 saw it take on the new name of simply Marcus after an extensive renovation which transformed the once familiar claret dining room into a stunning new contemporary space.

Within 18 months the group had grown to include The Gilbert Scott - an elegant British restaurant and bar located at The St Pancras Renaissance Hotel and more recently it has grown to include Tredwell’s which opened in September 2014. Tredwell’s is a vibrant West-End eatery located on Upper St Martin’s Lane in Covent Garden, London.

A familiar face on our TV screens, Marcus has made many key appearances on prime-time TV cookery programmes over the last ten years. In the autumn of 2014 Marcus took of the new role as judge on Master Chef: The Professionals.

Wrath - What makes you angry about the hospitality industry?
    Marcus Wareing Seven Sins
The perception that it is unsociable and all hard work and no fun. People forget the individuals (such as myself) choose to work in hospitality we are not slaves to it. It is a way of life and one that is immensely rewarding and full of excitement.

Greed - If all your food fantasies came true what would be on your Plate?
    Marcus Wareing Seven Sins
A rib of beef - a big one, still on the bone with a rich red wine and mushroom sauce with Yorkshire pudding, carrots and roasties on the side.

Sloth - What do you do to unwind?
    Marcus Wareing Seven Sins
Spend time with my family, watch the kids playing sport and I do a lot of running and boxing.

Pride - What are you most proud of?
    Marcus Wareing Seven Sins
My children and the efforts they make at school - both on the sports field and in the classroom.

Lust - Is there anything that you are still lusting to achieve?
    Marcus Wareing Seven Sins
Complete satisfaction in business, I am a perfectionist so I am not sure if that will ever be achievable.

Envy - who are you most envious of?
    Marcus Wareing Seven Sins
The Princes, William and Harry. They are incredible role models and their ability to inspire, influence and change people perceptions of real, global issues is amazing.

Gluttony - have you ever over indulged?
    Marcus Wareing Seven Sins
