The Pink Floyd Exhibition: Their Mortal Remains

    1 October, 2017

    The Pink Floyd Exhibition

The last time we visited the Victoria and Albert Museum in London was for the David Bowie exhibition. This time, it was the turn of Pink Floyd. This exhibition has been running throughout the summer. For those who haven't made it along, there are still a couple of weeks to go as it finishes on the 14th of October, and I would certainly recommend a visit.

The exhibition offers a trip through the history of one of the world's most respected bands. It is evident that a lot of work has gone into putting this show together; fans will be delighted in seeing a vast collection of instruments and effects that were used on each of their various albums.

On arrival you are given a headset and all you need to do is put it on and you are all set to go. As you work your way around the exhibition, the headset will sync with the area you are in or the screen you are viewing. There is much to see, with more than a few surprises.

You can expect artwork and album covers, advertisements and posters, details of props and staging, a selection of incredible video footage and of course clips of live performances.

They say it is best not to Meddle, but if it takes your fancy, you can even have a go at mixing one of the tracks from Dark Side of the Moon. So make sure you allow yourself plenty of Time, otherwise you will be On the Run.

"I had High Hopes for this event and it certainly didn't disappoint."

As good as it is this exhibition would never Eclipse a live concert of the band. I'm sure that was never intended by the V&A. It does, however, score highly in giving those that visit some wonderful insights into the history of the band. It is a very emotional and sensory exhibition which is totally immersive.

One aspect we must mention, when you find yourself where Arnold Lane and Comfortably Numb are being shown, instead of listening to the guitar solo at the end of Comfortably Numb, shift your attention over to Rick Wright's keyboard playing. I hadn't done this before and it was lovely to hear. The audio in the room is superb, making it so easy to pick it out. If you're worried about missing out, then fear not, as you can listen to it again whilst focusing on Mr Gilmour; you can't do that at a live show, so enjoy.

As a true fan, it's hard not to be awestruck at the intricacies and details that went into making their live performances what they were, as well as understanding how they developed as a band. Anyone who has been affected by Pink Floyd in their lifetime will know, they are a band like no other. This exhibition truly provides a unique insight and a new perspective.

I had High Hopes for this event and it certainly didn't disappoint. I'm now Lost for Words.
