The Grand Hotel in Stockholm boasts an unbeatable location from which to explore the joys of Stockholm. Located right on the city’s waterfront, this hotel boasts incredible views across to the palace, and the old town of Gamla Stan. Be sure to take your walking shoes - this hotel gives you the ideal base to explore the city by foot.

Upon arrival, we were greeted very warmly, and efficiently checked in. Our suite was magnificent, and featured a terrace with unrestricted views over the harbour. It was very pretty indeed, and especially atmospheric at night when the lights of the city cast shimmers over the water.

“Everything from the service, to the amenities in our room was faultless”

We have rarely felt more relaxed than we did on the terrace of our suite at night time.

This hotel has seen a wealth of celebrity guests; so do not be surprised if you can’t place a familiar face or two here. First opened in 1874, the Grand Hotel has been a VIP hangout for decades - with even the likes of Elizabeth Taylor gracing its doors. It turns out that she’d even shared our balcony, which surprisingly made it even more special.

The food and drink offering was also exceptional. Home to The Veranda restaurant, which sees Swedish celebrity chef Mathias Dahlgren heading up the kitchen, it’s easy to see why the hotel boasts such a wonderful atmosphere. The restaurant which is renowned for its traditional smorgasbord, is named after the hotel’s signature summer verandas.

Whilst at the hotel, it is also a must to check out the spa. Enjoy a classic Swedish massage - or work out with one of the hotel’s expert personal trainers. At the spa, you will also find health professionals, such a doctor specialising in Chinese medicine, or a chiropractor for any backaches and pains. This is more than just a spa - this is an all-round, comprehensive health retreat. With inspiration from the surrounding water, you can relax in the sauna, take a wonderful dip in the warm pool, and simply refresh and recharge.

The Grand Hotel certainly lives up to its name in terms of size, its public areas are extremely well maintained. With beautiful sofas and armchairs in the lounge area, every inch of the shared space is spotless, and simply promotes relaxation.

It’s also worth noting that the hotel offers its own car park and valet service, which is a huge credit to it, since it is an inner-city hotel.

Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Grand Hotel, and would return in an instant. Everything from the service, to the amenities in our room was faultless, and we cannot wait to return.
