Le Bar du Plaza Athénée can be found located in the Plaza Athénée hotel in Paris, which has recently been refurbished. The interiors are impressive, and when you enter you are surrounded by wooden panelling, with a semi-circular bar taking centre stage. The interior design provides a great talking point, and makes for an excellent environment in which to start your evening.
After perusing the menu, we decided to enjoy a cocktail or two. I began with a London Mule cocktail, which combines Tanqueray gin with St Germain, lime, and ginger beer; a take on the classic Moscow Mule that was expertly executed by the mixologist. My partner went for the not-so-classic Tiki Coco which saw a mix of vanilla rum with lychee, pineapple and coconut water. This refreshing, fruity blend provided an excellent start to the evening.
“We were very impressed with the level of skill that went into the creation of our cocktails.”
Next up, I sampled the Master Flower, which is a combination of Hendricks gin, elderflower, lime, aloe vera, and cucumber. It was actually a very refreshing combination, with the botanical gin providing a great kick. My partner chose a Champagne cocktail, Spark Havana, which saw a blend of Champagne, white rum, fresh mint, brown sugar and yuzu. This cocktail was a particular highlight from our visit.
Finally, I decided to try a Mater Old, which is a blend of Tanqueray gin, Aperol, orange syrup and Carpano. This aromatic, bitter yet sweet combination was a real winner for me. My partner opted for a Jamaican Mule, which saw spiced rum mixed with lime, bitters and ginger beer. This was again, a slightly different take on a Moscow Mule and which wonderfully executed.
We were impressed with the level of skill that went into the creation of our cocktails. This is the kind of bar where you could happily waste a few hours, with each cocktail leaving you wanting more. We would thoroughly recommend you stop by if you happen to be staying at Plaza Athénée hotel or if you just happen to be in Paris. We certainly look forward to returning and sampling a few more drinks from the wonderfully crafted drinks menu.
