Maze, by Gordon Ramsay is located inside the London Hotel, New York. The restaurant is fairly small, making for a pleasant intimate dining experience and a lovely atmosphere.

Being the product of Michelin Starred Chef, Gordon Ramsay, there is obviously a certain level of expectation in dining at Maze, and I am pleased to say that I wasn’t disappointed. But more about the food later, first we must talk about the cocktails.

The cocktail list features a reasonable selection of innovative cocktail creations, each with a typically British name. Firstly, we opted to try the London Red Carpet – a combination of fresh raspberries, vodka, blood orange and lime juices, agave nectar and Thai chili infused oil; and the London Bloom – a mix of Bombay gin, St Germain, muddled basil, cucumber, ginger and lime juice. With both of those two being so delicious, it was time to sample two more… The Pink Panther – a blend of Grey Goose, St Germain, lemon juice, fresh strawberries and a cucumber wheel; and The London, which consisted of grapefruit juice, gin and lillet, finished with Champagne. There are more than your average cocktails!

“The food is exquisite and the atmosphere is wonderful.”

After our aperitifs, we were shown to our table. After studying the menu intently, we decided on the Ahi tuna tartare to start, as well as the risotto of fresh herbs, lemongrass and Parmesan. Both were exquisitely presented and tasted as beautiful as they looked.

For our main courses, we opted for the veal chop with morel mushrooms, herbed gnocchi and fontina, as well as the New York Strip with potato confit, spinach and tomatillo sauce. As a side dish, we went for the olive crushed potatoes.

The wine list was also comprehensive and our meal was beautifully accompanied by a bottle of the Californian Sauvignon Blanc.

Our experience of Maze was very good indeed. The food is exquisite and the atmosphere is wonderful. We would highly recommend Maze to anyone whilst in New York and will look forward to returning ourselves.
