Mauro's is a restaurant located inside Fred Segal on Melrose Avenue. Mostly known to be open for lunch, however they occasionally open on Saturday evenings, which is when we visited. They have a DJ and plenty of atmosphere, so if you’re looking for somewhere lively to dine you should stop by.

It's a brasserie-style casual dining restaurant, and they have a small outdoor terrace. The menu has plenty of choices if you’re looking for something healthy or gluten-free as they offer gluten-free pasta as an option with all their pasta dishes. We were impressed the first time we visited and once again we left with fond memories.

We started our evening with an aperitif, two glasses of Duval-Leroy Champagne. A delicious, light champagne, full of floral and citrus notes.

To begin I ordered the Quinoa Salad, with Fresh Spinach, Cucumber, Peas, Avocado, and finished with an Organic Quinoa in a Balsamic Vinaigrette. A delicious salad, well prepared and the flavors were on-point. My partner ordered the Spinach and Egg White Salad, with Fresh Spinach in a Lemon and Olive Oil Dressing topped with Organic Egg White. Another fine dish with some interesting flavours which we cannot fault.

“Once again we left more than impressed with the food at Maurios.”

For our main course I ordered the Penne Bolognese, with Piemontese Ground Beef Sauteed in Red Wine. An excellent Bolognese dish, perfectly sauteed and the red wine brought a lot to the dish. My partner opted for the Seafood Linguini, Grilled Shrimps, and Clams, Sauteed in a Homemade Shrimp Bisque. This was an enjoyable Seafood dish and the homemade Shrimp Bisque is certainly worth returning for. We also added a side dish of Broccoli, Zucchini, Kale, and Shrimp which is one of my personal favourites here, it may sound simple but it’s beautifully sauteed in Olive Oil and Garlic and truly delicious.

Our chosen wine for the evening was a bottle of 2012, Joseph Carr, Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley, California. An excellent choice for the evening, this wine had notes of Coffee, Cherry, Fig, Mint, and Chocolate.

Once again we left more than impressed with the food at Mauro's. We look forward to returning again in the future and sampling more dishes from their menu.
