This review is of the Thistle Hotel in Piccadilly, a hotel about as central as you can get, making it the ideal stop for a city break. It overlooks Leicester Square and is within walking distance of just about everything and the tube is near enough for those things that aren’t.
Thistle are not a luxury brand, so don’t come here expecting the height of accommodation. However, this newly refurbished hotel offers decent accommodation in a lovely building in one of the best locations possible for a lively break.
We had a Junior Suite on the 7th floor. It was high enough to afford good views, while keeping the city noise to a minimum, ideal for a good stay. The glazing worked well, which helped a lot and is a real consideration in this kind of location.
The suite was well appointed with a nice contemporary décor, large windows, a huge bed and a seating area around a coffee table. The bed was large, comfortable, warm and gave us a great nights’ sleep.
“The Thistle Hotel is a lovely building in one of the best locations possible.”
The seating area in front of the window offers the chance for a coffee while watching the early morning throng before we had to join it ourselves. It was an enjoyable moment and one to savour.
The rest of the room had TV, Wi-Fi, air conditioning, coffee maker, newspaper, water and the usual. The sofa in the seating area doubles as a sofa bed if you have someone staying over, which is handy for late nights in the city.
The bathroom was also a decent size with slippers and a robe, thick, fluffy towels and good light. The walk-in shower was nice and the bathroom was a whole was well done and a pleasure to use.
The rest of the hotel has the House Lounge to eat and drink. A very red space that offers just about everything you would need without having to leave the hotel. We didn’t eat there as we had all of London on the doorstep.
The Thistle Hotel is a nice place to use as a base for a city break. The refurbishment has elevated the quality and the service is good enough to make us want to visit again.
