Sofitel St James has been a firm favourite of ours ever since we visited for the first time. Located, as the name might suggest, in the St James’ area of London, this hotel really is a prime spot from which to take in and explore the delights of Mayfair, Trafalgar Square and even Piccadilly Circus. This hotel really does put you at the centre of all the London action, so if you’re looking to take in a tourist attraction or two; look no further.

Its location is not the only thing that makes the Sofitel St James a special hotel; its architecture is simply stunning. Being located inside a Grade II listed building, the aesthetic of this hotel is most pleasing to the eye. This building was once home to a bank, and Sofitel have done an outstanding job in changing it into the relaxing retreat of its current 5 star luxury hotel surroundings, with gentle nods here and there to the building’s former self.

“One of the most special things about the Sofitel St James is that the staff are never without a smile.”

When we arrived we were greeted warmly and efficiently checked in. We were then shown to our room - a Superior Room that boasted charming views of Pall Mall. Our room was functional, with a huge bed and incredibly soft bedding. The room also boasted a desk for those looking to catch up on work and a spacious bathroom. Everything from the Nespresso machine in the room, to the Hermés toiletries in the bathroom, reminded us that we truly were in a 5 star environment.

This hotel has everything you need for a fantastic stay in the city, including a SoFIT gym complete with the latest equipment, and classes for those looking to step up their fitness regime. You’ll also find SoSPA if pampering is more your style and we highly recommend indulging in a treatment during your stay.

Although you may be torn with the delights of London on your doorstep, we can highly recommend dining in the hotel’s restaurant, The Balcon, which offers theatrical interior design and fabulous cuisine. We also recommend St James’ Bar, also located inside the hotel, for a pre-dinner drink to begin your evening.

One of the most special things about the Sofitel St James is that the staff are never without a smile. Service truly is everything in the hospitality industry, and thankfully Sofitel understand how to do it properly. Once again, we had a wonderful stay at Sofitel St James and it comes highly recommended by us as a wonderful option for a stay in central London.
