Old Bengal Bar and New Street Grill are located next to each other in London’s trendy East End. We began out evening at Old Bengal Bar, and were suitably impressed...

Old Bengal Bar is an impressive establishment, set inside the eighteenth century Old Bengal Warehouse, which was originally built for the East India Company. Inside it’s rustic, yet sophisticated, with a great atmosphere, thanks partially to a talented DJ who was playing when we arrived.

We decided to try a few cocktails at Old Bengal Bar before dinner, and thoroughly enjoyed listening to the DJ’s set whilst watching our cocktails being created. Whilst we were there, we enjoyed the following...

“We are already looking forward to returning.”

A ‘Blades of Glory’ - Old Bengal Bar’d Fabio Da Silva's winning drink for the Zubrowka Cocktail Competition - muddled lemon grass stirred with Zubrowka, Limoncello and fresh basil

A ‘Caucasian’ - Belvedere vodka and Khalua, served on crushed ice with a cream float

A ‘Star with the Passion’ - Konik's Tail Vodka and fresh passion fruit shaken with lemon juice and passion fruit sugar

A ‘Moscow Mule’ - A classic - Russian Standard vodka, fresh lime and Angostura bitters with Jamaican ginger beer

The cocktails were impressive, and combined with the brilliant atmosphere we could have happily stayed there all night, if our time hadn’t come to sit down for dinner.

We moved through to the New Street Grill, where the atmosphere changed from buzzy and bold to small an intimate - the perfect atmosphere in which to enjoy dinner. The cosy space creates a calming ambience and certainly relaxed us into our evening.

Sat by the window, our table looked out over the courtyard of the old Bengal bar. We were greeted with a warm welcome and presented with the menu.

We were impressed with the menu, and to start, chose the baby beetroot with Croxton Manor goat’s curd and crisp leaves, and the lobster cocktail with crisp lettuce and shellfish sauce. The flavours were impeccable and the presentation of the dishes was very good.

For our main courses, we went for the Heron’s Farm fillet steak at the USDA certified prime Black Angus New York Strip. We had mashed potato and mac and cheese on the side, and again, were very impressed.

For desert we opted for the burnt Cambridge cream with a short bread biscuit and the steamed syrup pudding with English custard; the perfect end to a great meal.

We would certainly recommend a visit to the Old Bengal Bar and New Street Grill. The atmosphere at both venues is perfect and you won’t be disappointed with the food offering. The staff really make sure you feel looked after. We are already looking forward to returning.
