Located on level 33 of The Shard, Hutong provides unrivalled views over London and offers exquisite Northern Chinese cuisine. We recommend requesting a table by the window, which is how we experienced the restaurant. We were able to enjoy the sunset over the Thames with a cocktail in hand, a special moment and one we will remember. Make sure you visit the bathroom too during your visit as they are an experience in themselves. The service is exceptional, and our waitress was a true credit to Hutong, we were looked after from the moment we arrived and left with the complete Hutong experience.

We started our evening with some pre-dinner cocktails. I ordered the 'Make a Wish', mixed with Tanqueray Gin, Kamm and Sons, Pomelo, Vanilla Syrup, Lime Juice, and Soda Water. This cocktail was not shy of gin, and was also complete with Edible Chinese Wishing Card which was a nice surprise. My partner ordered the 'Old Peking Fashioned', a delightful cocktail mixed with Peking Duck Infused Hennessy Cognac, Roasted Sesame Syrup, Chocolate Bitters, and Angostura Bitters. This arrived with a delicious Chocolate and Sesame Seed Popping Candy Pancake which was a tasty treat.

“The service is exceptional, and our waitress was a true credit to Hutong.”

To begin we ordered the Roasted Peking Duck. you can choose a whole or half duck served in two stages, we opted for the half duck. The first stage is having the duck carved at your table and served with Pancakes, Cucumber, scallion and Hoisin Sauce. The second stage being wok-fried with crisp vegetables and served with Lettuce Wraps. This is quite the experience and we recommend starting your evening with this dish.

For our main dishes I ordered the Mongolian-style Barbecue Rack of Lamb with Herbs and Tea Leaves. This dish delivered flavours that must be experienced, the herbs and tea leaves gave this dish a unique and very enjoyable flavour. My partner ordered the Spicy Minced Pork, served with Fresh Lettuce, wok-fried Minced Pork with Chilli, Onion, and Pine Nuts. A perfect example of what Northern Chinese cuisine has to offer, the pork was tender and the chilli gave the dish a nice kick of flavour. We also shared the Golden Jade Tofu, with Leek and Coriander Sauce, along with a side of Egg White Fried Rice which completed our main course wonderfully.

Our chosen wine for the evening was a bottle of 2012, Domaine de Beaurenard, Rasteau, Cotes du Rhone Villages, France. A wine with some strong spicy notes, ripe fruits, and very appealing on the palate. Hutong combines stunning views with exceptional cuisine and service. A must visit, you will not be disappointed.
