You can find La Borde Maison d’Hôtes nestled well in the countryside of Leugny in Burgundy. Picturesque scenery surrounds the Maison d’Hôtes, with its stunning, rural location providing the most beautiful backdrop to this gorgeous bed and breakfast.

The property has been owned by the current proprietors for around 17 years now, and there’s a real sense of their heart and soul in the Maison d’Hôtes, which has gone a long way to making this special retreat so unique.

“It really does have something for everyone, with a location to die for.”

The large rustic metal gates open as we drive into the property, and shortly after a golf buggy arrived to take our luggage to our room. We were staying in the Aubépine room, one of the six rooms La Borde provides. Each room is unique and differs in design, although each one boasts a huge bespoke king sized bed. The furnishings in each room have been carefully hand selected, and ooze character. With most of the furniture being Italian, this is not the sort of place where one might find a mini bar tucked away in a wardrobe. Instead, they have the most beautiful wooden unit, which houses a mini bar amongst other necessities.

The bathroom in Aubépine is of a substantial size and boasts traditional his and hers sinks. As well as this, the bathroom offers a large bath and a walk-in shower. Throughout the room there are gorgeous traditional wooden shutters, which were one of my favourite original features that La Borde have cleverly managed to maintain. With exposed rustic beams, La Borde really does offer an authentic French getaway.

La Borde also offers a helipad, should you wish to avoid the drive, which is located inside their stunning grounds. It’s worth exploring the grounds during your visit, as there is a wealth of vegetation and wildlife to admire. La Borde also has a large orangery where guests can relax, and large groups can enjoy a private dining experience.

In the main building, they have a games room complete with large pool table, and a lounge area with a good sized plasma television. There’s also a sofa area, with doors that slide completely open, making it an extension of the garden.

La Borde even offers a small business center, as well as a fitness area and a spa building, where couples can pay to have exclusive use for two hours, to make the most of the sauna and electric massage bed.

If you’re looking for a real country retreat experience, La Borde should certainly be on your list. It really does have something for everyone, with a location to die for.
