St. Michaels Manor in St. Albans is a traditional country house hotel set in 5 acres of green land. It’s a lovely place to escape from the world and ideal if you’re headed to, or from Luton airport. It’s a short drive from the city and a great place to spend a weekend.

It’s on the edge of town, next to a park, which makes it an ideal retreat. If the 5 acres of grounds aren’t enough, the park has plenty more green space to enjoy.

The hotel is a traditional red brick house set alongside a large lake. The setting is lovely, immediately creating an aura of calm contemplation and expectation. This is a 4-star venue, so standards are high.

“St. Michaels Manor is the perfect place to recharge one’s batteries.”

The décor is traditional done well, with everything tidy and in great condition. There are paintings on the wall, rich wood furniture throughout, the dining room is wood panelled and there is everything here you would hope from an old country house. While we love modern hotels, it’s nice to visit a piece of traditional England once in a while, it’s refreshing.

We had the Magnolia Suite, which was large, light and had a great view over the grounds. It was one of those rooms that just made you smile as you walked in. It had a large, comfortable bed, lovely thick curtains, a seating area, chairs, coffee table, large LCD TV, and everything else we needed.

The bathroom was also a good size, with a walk-in shower, large bath, fluffy towels and a lovely feeling of comfort throughout.

The rest of the hotel echoed this feeling of comfort. From the lovely public areas, comfortable bar, breakfast in the restaurant, to the smiling staff who couldn’t seem to do enough for us.

Our stay at St. Michaels Manor was entirely positive. We were made to feel welcome and the standards were high in both décor and service. It is the perfect place to recharge one’s batteries and we would gladly stay here again.
