East restaurant can be found located inside the East Hotel in Hamburg. This stylish hotel offers and equally stylish dining room, with beautiful exposed brick walls and low level lighting. The atmosphere is buzzy and warm.
On arrival, we were given a friendly greeting and shown to our table. We perused the menu, and were give the option of having wine paired with our dishes; which we couldn’t turn down. Our waiter was informative and charming, and we felt instantly relaxed from start to finish.
We were excited for our food to arrive - firstly, we opted for the crispy duck salad, which was a combination of marinated duck, pomelo, peanuts, Asian cress, grapefruit, and red onions. The flavour combination was outstanding, and paired with a 2013 German Sauvignon Blanc, it was an excellent dish indeed.
“Each dish was simply beautiful.”
Secondly, we went for the cosmopolitan ceviche, which consisted of wild prawn, cranberry tapioca, avocado cream, mandarin oil, and chili cress. And for our third dish, we chose the Sherpa special roll - tempura prawn, cucumber, avocado, and fried tuna mountain pepper-cream.
To finish off our starter dishes collection, we chose the Beijing duck roll, which saw Beijing duck tempura with cucumber, chives, and hoisin sauce. Again, each plate was simply beautiful.
For our main courses, we both opted for the fillet of beef from Uruguay, and on the side we chose to sample the truffled French fries with parmesan. The beef came paired with a wonderful 2011 Argentinian Malbec, which was the perfect addition to the dish. We were blown away by the quality of the food.
Everything about our experience at East was impeccable, from the service, to the presentation and flavours of the dishes. We were very impressed indeed, and would return immediately. We would thoroughly recommend it to anyone who enjoys authentic, Asian inspired dishes.
