Mar Hall Hotel is an impressive country house spa hotel not far from Glasgow. Set in impressive grounds, surrounded by a river, golf course and with views of the mountains, this is a lovely place to escape.

This is a five-star venue that deserves every one. The setting is beautiful, the service exceptional, the décor quality and the experience was one to remember. The building is an old Scottish country house with an imposing façade, squared windows and a long drive.

The interior is lavish, but in a very good way. Everything around you is opulent and luxurious without being in your face. From the moment you see the building you know you’re in for a treat, and the interior continues this throughout.

“The Mar Hall Hotel is well worth the drive if you’re anywhere near Glasgow.”

We had a Junior Suite, which had plenty to offer. There was lots of floor space, large windows, a huge four-poster, sofas, chairs, a coffee table and a decent sized bathroom. The view was excellent, with a little of the golf course and the hills in the distance. We kept the curtains open as long as possible just so we could enjoy it.

The décor and furniture are contemporary, but done is such a way as to complement the traditional building. A lot of effort had obviously gone in to merging new with the old, and it works.

The bathroom was well-appointed, with twin sinks and separate bath and shower. There were fluffy towels and robes, decent products and enough room to make the room feel nice to be in.

The four-poster was lovely. The mattress was firm but comfortable and the pillows just the right side of fluffy. We both slept very well indeed. We heard almost nothing from other guests and there was blessed silence from outside.

Service at Mar Hall was great. Wherever you were, the staff offered a smile and couldn’t seem to do enough for you. The spa was of a high quality and well worth a visit. We enjoyed a mud treatment, which was thoroughly enjoyable.

It all added up to a very positive experience. The hotel is somewhere you travel to, not somewhere you would pass, but it’s well worth the drive if you’re anywhere near Glasgow.
