Neatly tucked into the side of the grand Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Geneva, Le Sud is a popular brasserie that combines contemporary design and flair with classic French cuisine and warm atmosphere. Sat on the banks of the River Rhone, Le Sud is a wonderful place from which to dine on wonderful cuisine whilst continuing to take in the beautiful city.

We were seated in the glass conservator area by our friendly and attentive waiter and were delighted to be able to take in the view while we enjoyed our meal. The relaxed and almost casual style of the restaurant made it easy for us to just take in our surroundings and enjoy our glass of Taittinger aperitif.

“The staff were notably attentive throughout.”

To begin, I chose to sample the penne pasta with tomato and pesto. Beautifully cooked and presented, the penne pasta was delicious and the pesto was impressive. Although the dish used relatively few ingredients, every one was clearly carefully considered and the dish was beautifully balanced.

My partner chose to start with a prawn and green asparagus risotto. Very earthy but fresh with the addition of the prawns, this was a wonderful take on a classic risotto and exceeded my partner’s expectations. The prawns were particularly delicious and their subtle flavour was lifted by the other ingredients.

We both chose to try the grilled Angus finest beef fillet for out main course. Served with a pepper sauce, French beans and delicious ratte potatoes. The fillet was absolutely delicious and very tender; perfectly cooked to our specifications. The ratter potatoes were equally delicious, and their nutty flavour complimented the beef.

The staff were notably attentive throughout, always ensuring that we were comfortable and providing an exceptional service that did justice to the beautiful food that is served at Le Sud.
