The Orangery is Rockliffe Hall’s flagship restaurant and is located inside the hotel. The surroundings are lavish and impressive, with everything well-maintained with spectacular Victorian décor. The gothic interior and original features make for the perfect setting, soft lighting softened the dark edges and made it a more intimate atmosphere.
The Orangery offers an impressive menu with a mixture of modern and traditional dishes. The restaurant also made sure they catered for both vegetarian and non-vegetarian guests with a choice of menu.
“The experience was enjoyable and overall the menu was a delight.”
The prestige menu offered a myriad of wonderful ingredients that evoked a feeling of satisfaction before they had even been served; we particularly liked the sound of the caramelised onion risotto.
Despite the rich sounding menu I found my new season lamb to be a little on the tough side. The wild garlic, although lovely, detracted from the flavour of the lamb, the chef was kind enough to offer an alternative, which we declined.
The vegetarian tasting menu at the Orangery offers many treats including the pressed pink fir potato and Yellison farm goats cheese terrine. Like much of the menu it is rich but the delicate flavours of the gooseberries and lemon create a fresh undertone to the terrine.
These flavours were also enhanced by a bottle of Malbec, Andelina, Mendoza, Argentina 2010. The experience was enjoyable and overall the menu was a delight.
