The Headland Cottages near Newquay are high quality self-catering accommodation with all the comforts of home. The complex is aptly named, being right on the cliff overlooking some stunning Atlantic Ocean views.

The complex includes a beautifully imposing Victorian four star hotel, 39, 5-star cottages and everything the Cornish coast has to offer. It’s a superb location, probably one of the best we have seen and a great place to spend a romantic weekend, or an action-packed family getaway.

We had a two-bedroomed Seaspray cottage. It had an amazing view of the sea that was worth the journey from London on its own. The almost 180 degree vista of blue green ocean is an amazing sight, and one a city-dweller rarely gets to enjoy. We can’t express how nice it was to sit on a balcony and just watch the waves and admire Fistral beach, it was awesome!

From the outside, the cottages look modern in a quaint, coastal kind of way. Whitewashed walls, grey slate roofs and a low profile allows them to nestle comfortably on the cliff top. The low profile allows a couple of tiers of the buildings, providing excellent views for many.

The accommodation itself is easily worthy of a 5-star rating. The cottages are modern, but not cutting edge, a meshing of contemporary with country/coastal chic. It’s a comfortable balance that should suit almost every taste. The décor is airy, with light walls, wooden furniture and accents provided by the soft furnishings.

The cottage included a living area, kitchen/diner and two bedrooms, both of which was en-suite. The living area is well-proportioned, with more great views out over the coast.

“Everything about The Headland Cottages is quality.”

The fully-fitted kitchen has everything you’re likely to need and is easy to work in. It shared the lovely blue-toned light from the living room windows and although we didn’t use it much, was easy to use.

The master bedroom has a modern four-poster bed which we found very comfortable indeed. The large window flooded the room with natural light, which was effectively blocked by the lined curtains. The room was a good size and had a nice, relaxed feel about it.

The en-suite was tidy and completely clean. It had a full-sized bath and walk in shower, both of which were eminently suitable for purpose.

The other bedroom was a twin, also en-suite and was also of decent proportions. The en-suite was smaller than the master, but not by too much and still had plenty enough room to get around.

Outside, through the living area is a small patio complete with seating from which you can enjoy those stunning views and soak up the sea air and relaxed coastal atmosphere. When the sun is shining, this is the place to be!

Guests in The Headland Cottages also get to use the hotel facilities, which include a new spa and pool, restaurant, bar and a range of other leisure amenities. This arrangement allows you to have the best of both worlds, a self-contained cottage with all the benefits of a hotel. A short walk to the main building gives you whatever you need, while you can retreat back into your cottage once you’re done. The cottages even receive a daily light service really allowing you to relax and unwind.

Everything about The Headland Cottages is quality. It’s no surprise that it received 5-stars. The layout is well considered, the construction and outfitting is of a high standard, the facilities are excellent and the service is superb.

The location, the view and the quality of the accommodation means we would be more than happy to visit The Headland Cottages again.
