The St Moritz Hotel in Trebetherick, Cornwall is a nice seaside hotel with lovely views over Daymer Bay. From the outside, the building looks like an art deco lifeguard station, a little weathered and a little worn, but once you get inside all that changes.
The décor inside is light, contemporary and quite refreshing. The lobby large, with plenty of sofas and a nice, relaxed feel. The reception staff were friendly and attentive and we were soon on our way. The reception is in a different building than the rooms, so getting to our King Room was a little bit of a trek.
The room itself was on the ground floor, which was different. The room itself was large, light and had a welcoming feeling. The bed was a king-size, hence the name and dominated one end of the room. There was a small en-suite, desk chair and a small LCD TV in the room.
The bed was lovely and comfortable with high quality, thick sheets. The pillows too were of a high quality and were nicely plump.
“The St Moritz Hotel inside is light, contemporary and quite refreshing.”
The large window didn’t have a sea-view, but the literature was quite clear on that. Instead we had a view of the outside area, with a light just outside the window. Unfortunately, that meant even at night, we could see the light through the curtains, which marred our sleep slightly.
On entering the room, the temperature felt quite cold. It looked like as well as power, the heating was controlled by the keycard, so while unoccupied the room cooled considerably. If this is in fact the case, that’s a design oversight that would put winter visitors off returning.
The cold aside, the room was nice, calm, simple and a nice place to be. The bathroom was small but perfectly formed, with just a combined bath and shower, sink and toilet. While compact, it was a nice bathroom, in great condition and spotlessly clean.
The St Moritz Hotel seems to be geared towards being a base from which to explore Cornwall, so contain little in the way of creature comforts. The rooms are nice, but lack that certain luxury we are used to. The room temperature, outside light and small TV are oversights we didn’t expect to see somewhere like this, but aren’t showstoppers.
