The Doubletree by Hilton Chester hotel is a spa hotel, so it has a little more to it than the usual Doubletree. Check-in was friendly, we were met with a smile and warm cookie.

The hotel is just over two miles out of town, Chester itself is a wonderful walled city to visit by day or by night.

The building is a converted 18th century manor house set in its own grounds a little way from the city centre. The main building is the old part, with a newer extension for the vast amount of bedrooms.

There are period features still present in the main house that slowly fade into contemporary features in the new. It’s still a nice place to be. It has a nice, calm feel about the place that immediately sets you at ease.

"We were met with a smile and warm cookie."

We experienced one of their Standard Rooms during our stay, which wasn’t huge, but large enough for a short visit. The room was well kept and had just about everything we needed. To describe it using two words, I would say crisp and clean.

The bed was of a good size, however the pillows were a little on the small side. It was comfortable and provided a good nights sleep. The minibar was well stocked and included complementary water, and place to store our own belongings.

We made the most of the gym and spa facilities. The gym is well equipped, and has all the latest training tools you could possibly need. There is a personal trainer for those looking for personal training. The pool is large although we didn’t swim too much due to the rather relaxing steam room and hydrofoil, or for the more adventurous perhaps a visit to the Rasul.

Everywhere looked clean, tidy and well kept. The service is good, the staff are friendly. The hotel obviously has high standards, and intends to stick with them. There is a Marco Pierre White Steakhouse within the old part of the hotel which we visited during our stay.

The Doubletree by Hilton Chester is another juxtaposition of old and new trying to live side by side in harmony. For the most part it succeeds and we would happily stay there again.
