Bill’s can be found in Cardiff’s City Centre. It’s a large restaurant with various seating options, we had a booth-style table during our visit which was a joy. The service was friendly, it’s the perfect place to grab lunch, and offers an interesting selection of gluten-free options.
We started our afternoon with a couple of pre-lunch cocktails. I ordered the ‘English Country Garden’, a gin-based floral cocktail with a fruity body, mixed with gin and elderflower aperitif, elderflower cordial, lime juice, and cloudy apple juice. My partner ordered the ‘Bill’s Summer Cup’, a similar cocktail mixed with gin and elderflower aperitif, elderflower presse, and summer fruits, a great way to start any sunny afternoon.
To begin I ordered the Avocado, Bacon and Spinach Salad, with croutons, Bill’s dressing, and pecorino cheese. A lovely salad to start with, all the ingredients were crisp and fresh and the Bill’s dressing has a wonderful texture and flavour. My partner ordered the Prawn Cocktail, with heirloom tomato salsa, creme fraiche marie rose sauce, avocado and baked ciabatta crisps. Another delicious starter, the prawns were fresh and worked very well with the salsa.
“Bill’s should be on your to-do list when visiting Cardiff.”
For our main course I ordered the Halloumi and Hummus Burger, this was served in a toasted bun with grilled halloumi, accompanied by roasted red peppers, sweet chilli sauce, cumin yogurt, and skin-on fries. Halloumi and hummus are the perfect marriage and came together perfectly in this burger, and I have to say the cumin yogurt was delicious. My partner ordered the Grilled Sea Bass Fillets, served with cherry tomatoes, avocado and caper salsa, and pan-fried potato rosti. The sea bass was well-seasoned, prepared perfectly, and delivered on taste.
For dessert I ordered Strawberries and Cream Pavlova, served with rosemary and vanilla pavlova, strawberries, whipped cream, strawberry coulis, and vanilla ice cream. This dish tasted every bit as delicious as it sounds, it’s certainly filling however, so one to save room for. My partner opted for the Warm Chocolate Brownie, with warm chocolate sauce, vanilla ice cream, and a chocolate flake. This is a must try for chocolate lovers, it’s an indulgence that you will not regret.
Our choice of wine was a bottle of 2013, La Croix, Vermentino, Sauvignon Blanc. A lovely, fresh and aromatic wine, with a hint of anise.
There is a wealth of choice in Cardiff for places to dine, based on our experience Bill’s should be on your to-do list when visiting Cardiff.
