During a recent stay at Danesfield House, we decided to indulge in a spot of afternoon tea. it’s quite the experience, served in the grand hall, it offers the most beautiful of surroundings, adding a touch of glamour to this quintessentially British experience.

We decided to go for The Danesfield Champagne afternoon tea, which begins with a wonderful glass of Pommery Brut Rose Champagne, which went down very nicely indeed.

The champagne was followed by a selection of sumptuous finger sandwiches, including: ham and mustard, beef and horseradish, egg and cress, smoked salmon, and of course, cucumber and cream cheese. The sandwiches were delicious, with the bread being gorgeously soft and the fillings incredibly fresh.

After the sandwiches, we were served a selection of warm scones which were served with the traditional accompaniments of strawberry jam and Cornish clotted cream. The scones were delicate and tasty and the jam and cream were just perfect.

“Their afternoon tea offering is further testament to the hard work and dedication the team put into ensuring every guest has a great experience.”

We were also served a selection of sweet treats, including raspberry macaroons, brownies, cranberry and pecan flapjacks, lemon sponge, ginger cake and mocha cake. All were equally delicious.

For our tea choices, I chose the Danesfield Hotel Breakfast Blend, which saw a beautiful combination of high altitude grown broken orange pekoe black teas across Assam, Sumatra and China. This tea was elegant yet complex with sweet notes.R32;R32;My partner chose the Jasmine Bai Ma Huo, which offered the classic jasmine flavour along with a wonderful aroma. We learnt that this tea is also known as the 'White Haired Monkey', which is in homage to the white twisted hairs on the young tea buds.

We had a lovely afternoon at Danesfield house. If you're in the area of Marlow then we would definitely suggest you pop by to experience their afternoon tea, even if you're not staying at the hotel. This hotel offers a true taste of English hospitality, and their afternoon tea offering is further testament to the hard work and dedication the team put into ensuring every guest has a great experience.
