The Hotel Amigo in Brussels is one of Rocco Fortes stable. It’s a 5-star venue right in the heart of Brussels city centre. That makes it ideal for the weekend or the business traveller.
The building is recently restored, and is marvellous to look at. The red brick façade is typical European and the restoration has been done very well. The hotel fronts onto the main city square, next to the cathedral and is perfect for exploring on foot.
"The Hotel Amigo is exactly what you would expect from Rocco Forte, understated elegance and an attention to detail that many other chains miss."
The inside is equally grand, with airy spaces, stone floors, rich rugs and a hushed elegance that is hard to achieve. Reception is tucked away in a recess with the receptionists behind a dark wood desk.
Our Deluxe room was of a good size, but not huge. It had a great view over the square, and to the cathedral, which was next door. It was a nice vista for a weekend away. The bed was large, comfortable and gave us a really good night sleep. The pillows were large and fluffy, but supportive, bed linen crisp and clean as you would expect.
The room is well laid out, with a small desk, chairs, coffee table, minibar, safe, LCD TV and small wardrobe. The bathroom was all marble, with a decent bath and shower. There was enough room for two, and enough light to do what you need to do.
The highlight of our stay was the breakfast. It was a serve-yourself affair with the full range of pastries, fruits, cereals, tea, coffee and juice. There was enough for everyone, and was constantly refreshed to ensure everyone had what they wanted.
The rest of the hotel continued the classic European look. Everywhere was clean, tidy and decorated in simple, elegant colours. The furniture was largely rich wood, with some soft fabrics thrown in. The overall impression is that of a traditional hotel who takes pride in itself.
Overall our stay at the Hotel Amigo was great. It’s exactly what you would expect from Rocco Forte, understated elegance and an attention to detail that many other chains miss.
