Hotel du Vin in Birmingham can be found located just a short walk from the town centre. The building itself is a former hospital, with a grand façade. This hotel has a strong presence in the area, and exudes character.

The hotel’s interiors are full of history, and all the décor you would expect from the Hotel du Vin brand. That being said, this hotel is devoid from the usual chain hotel clichés, and offers a more boutique feel.

When we arrived at the hotel we were checked in swiftly by a friendly member of staff, and were pointed in the direction of our room; a Deluxe Suite named Wolf Blass. Each of the rooms are named after wine and Champagne, which is a novel touch and echoed across all Hotel du Vins’.

Our suite was very spacious, with a separate lounge and bedroom area. The bed was huge, possibly the largest I have ever seen, and was delightfully comfortable – absolutely perfect for a long weekend lie-in. The lounge area was also spacious and provided the perfect place to relax with a cup of coffee from the room’s Nespresso machine following a day of exploring the wonderful city of Birmingham.

“It is an efficient hotel, with a boutique edge and great facilities”

The bathroom was well appointed, with a walk-in monsoon shower as well as a roll top bath tub, allowing for total calm and relaxation. There’s nothing better than a soak in a nice bathtub, and this room certainly makes for the ideal place to indulge.

As expected with Hotel du Vin, the hotel also has its own restaurant onsite - Bistro du Vin. The restaurant is large and serves up a delicious French-style cuisine in an informal and intimate, candlelit ambiance. It’s a great place to replenish with a glass of wine and meal whilst staying at the hotel. There is also a pub in the basement if you’re after something more casual – Pub du Vin – which serves up gastro pub style food in a relaxed, busy pub setting.

The hotel also has a spa that offers treatments in its six treatment rooms and a separate space for pedicures. You will also find a gym, sauna and steam room for when you’re looking for some true rest and relaxation.

We were delighted with our stay at Hotel du Vin, Birmingham, and would happily return should we happen to be in the city again. It is an efficient hotel, with a boutique edge and great facilities.
