The Crazy Bear Thai restaurant in Beaconsfield was certainly a sight to see. Immediately after entering the restaurant we were excited about the stylish décor. With low lighting and rustic wooden beams. The theme of the restaurant summed up the food that was to follow.

Having been seated, we ordered a bottle of Val D’Oca Prosecco NV to enjoy throughout our meal. We also tried two of the restaurants cocktails. The first was a warm and aromatic blend of wonderful flavours, including 42 Below vodka, blended mango, fresh chilli, vanilla syrup and nutmeg. Known as Amber, the cocktail was deliciously unusual. We also tried the Lychee Lover cocktail. Keeping true to its name, the cocktail was filled with blended lychees and lychee liqueur, as well as Tanqueray gin, Koskenkorva vanilla vodka, ginger and lemongrass.

“Every dish at the Crazy Bear Thai was wonderful.”

As a pre starter we enjoyed a selection of sushi. The dragon roll was filled with Alaskan spider crab with asparagus, avocado, cucumber and salmon. We also tried the California roll, which included shrimp, Alaskan spider crab, avocado and cucumber. Again, this was very fresh and the light ingredients were perfectly matched.

For my starter I chose the sticky pork short ribs smoked with jasmine tea. The ribs were delicious and the smoky flavour was strong but not overpowering. My partner chose the Cotswold chicken satay, served with ard-jard and peanut dipping sauces. The dish was we’ll-presented and very tasty.

For our main course, we both enjoyed the chargrilled sirloin of Wagyu beef, served with a teriyaki ponzu sauce. The beef was absolutely wonderful and extremely tender; the quality of the beef was evident. The sauce was also delicious and paired well with the beautiful flavours of the beef. We also sampled the egg fried rice and crispy seaweed sides, both of which were delightful.

For my dessert, I chose to try the bitter chocolate soup with tonka bean ice cream. Following the Thai theme, the dish was bitter but well-balanced and the ice cream was quite unusual. A great choice to finish my meal. My partner chose to try the chocolate cookie sundae, served with chocolate sorbet, vanilla ice cream and honeycomb and chocolate sauce. Steering away from the Thai roots, this dish was sweet and rich but thoroughly enjoyable. Every dish at the Crazy Bear Thai was wonderful and would recommend this to anyone who appreciates fine food in trendy surroundings.
