Canal House is part of the Curious Group of Hotels, who are the people behind the lovely Cowley Manor and the Portobello Hotel in London. Having visited this hotel some years ago we were keen to revisit to learn if our excitement still remained for this hotel. This is a rather small, intimate boutique hotel with plenty of character.

As the name suggests, this hotel is perched on the side of the Keizersgracht canal, just steps from the city centre of Amsterdam. This is a fantastic location and Canal House makes a great base from which to explore Amsterdam.

During our visit we experienced one of their “Outstanding Rooms” which is located on the first floor. This is one of two rooms in this category, and when we arrived at our room we were delighted to find that the room faced the canal; which served as a great reminder that we were definitely in Amsterdam. Our room was spacious and included an open plan bathroom with a separate bath and walk-in shower, complete with Green & Spring bath products, a single wash basin and a separate private toilet.

“Canal House made for a very comfortable and beautiful stay, complete with enviable views.”

There was also a small sofa in the bedroom allowing you to sit and relax and joy the views over the canal. The room also boasted an abundance of intriguing wall art, with no beige wall in sight. Other facilities in the room included a Bose docking station, a flat screen TV with a handful of English channels, and a well-stocked mini bar. The king size bed took centre stage of the room and provided a comfortable nights’ sleep.

In the hotel itself, you will find a small bar serving some impressively well-made cocktails. The Great Room is their relaxing drawing room where you can kick back with a magazine and coffee, or a board game should you wish. This room also overlooks their private garden, which is open for guests to sit and enjoy should the sun be shining.

The staff at Canal House are friendly and they are also happy to make local suggestions should you be looking for ideas or places to visit nearby. We simply love Amsterdam as a city, so having such a great location from which to visit some of our favourite sites was extremely welcomed. Canal House made for a very comfortable and beautiful stay, complete with enviable views.
