We recently returned to this charming hotel; the Crown & Thistle, which can be found in Abingdon in Oxfordshire. This pub is a part of the Oakman Inns Group and offers a wealth of quintessentially British charm. The building itself is a former coaching inn and is 400 years old, which makes for a traditional and authentic ambiance. In terms of location, the Crown & Thistle is easily walk-able to the river Thames and also all of the shops and attractions that Abingdon has to offer.

When we arrived, we were greeted warmly by the team and shown on our way to our room. During this visit, we stayed in the Camille Suite, which we had actually stayed I once before. We were pleased to discover that the room had retained its cosy and unique charm. This room is often used as a bridal suite, which makes sense, as it does hold a certain romantic feel.

“In our opinion not a lot compares to curling up in a country pub and eating some great food before enjoying a comfortable night’s sleep, and that’s exactly what the Crown & Thistle can offer you.”

The room itself offers open-plan luxury, with the bath and dressing area located up a few steps that help to separate the space. The bath is a beautiful roll-top bath, in which you could easily bathe for hours. The room does also offer a separate bathroom where you will find a shower, wash basin and toilet. In terms of décor and interior design it is very traditional; think pattered wall paper and exposed beams.

The Crown & Thistle is split across a triad of buildings. One building houses The Bridge Street Restaurant, one building houses the pub, and the final building houses the rooms, of which there are 18 in total. All the buildings are all set around a beautiful cobbled courtyard, making the entire area very picturesque.

We would certainly recommend the Crown & Thistle as a fantastic option when looking to stay in the area. With easy access to Oxford, it really does boast a great location, and the hotel itself is wonderfully pretty. In our opinion not a lot compares to curling up in a country pub and eating some great food before enjoying a comfortable night’s sleep, and that’s exactly what the Crown & Thistle can offer you.
